In 2016 Hampshire County Council ceased running their mobile library service. Two Crawley residents foresaw that the villagers that had used it would struggle to get to the nearest library in Winchester. So, they decided to start a Village Library by begging and borrowing books.
Ten years on and there are well stocked bookcases, in both the Games Room and Tavern, with over 500 books for all of Crawley’s residents to borrow. There is a wide variety/genre of books for children and adults including (but not limited to), Ladybird, non-fiction, fiction, reference books, cookery, and even an illustrated book on The History of Crawley Village!
Following a grant from Winchester City Council in 2025, many new publications were able to be purchased last year.
Donations of paperback fiction are always welcome though, as we strive to keep the library continually refreshed and up to date with new books.
The Library is open once a month with teas and cakes provided free, and books are also available to borrow on a Friday evening when the Tavern is open. For dates, times and further information please contact Alison Carey on 01962 776534 and/or see the Crawley Village Facebook Page.
